vi
Installation
Well, it’s finally September, and Minh has actually created something you can download: a language pack, in wonderful XPI format! Unfortunately, the language pack is not compatible with Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0. Minh is currently updating it to work in more recent versions.
- Latest language pack release (1 September 2005)
- Language pack circa 1 September 2005
To use Thunderbird in Vietnamese using the XPI language pack, you must have Thunderbird 1.5 installed; this language pack will not run with earlier versions of Thunderbird.
- Drag this link into the Thunderbird Extension Manager window. If that doesn’t work, save the file and choose it by clicking on the Install button in the Extension Manager.
- Once Thunderbird opens the file, it will ask you if you want to install it. Click on the Install button once it becomes available.
- The Extension Manager should now list an extension named vi, and it should say that it’ll be installed after you restart. Close Thunderbird.
- In Microsoft Windows, open the Start menu and select Run.... On other operating systems, open up your command line.
- Type in the following command: thunderbird.exe -UILocale vi
Thunderbird should now start, and the interface should be in Vietnamese. To revert it to English, use the following command: thunderbird.exe -UILocale xx-YY -contentLocale YY, where xx is the original language packs’s ISO language code and YY is the original region pack’s country code. So, for example, you would enter the following: thunderbird.exe -UILocale en-US -contentLocale US
Alternatively, you can download a JAR archive that masquerades as the English language pack, which you can then drop directly into Thunderbird’s chrome directory. Be sure, however, to first backup your original en-US.jar file.
