The current localization is not compatible with Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0. We are currently updating the language pack for compatibility with the latest version of Thunderbird.
The vi project was Minh Nguyễn’s Summer of Code project to localize Mozilla Thunderbird 1.1 for the Vietnamese language, under the mentorship of mozdev’s David Boswell. Google’s Summer of Code 2005 only allowed individuals to participate, so this project originally did not accept outside contributions. Now that the SoC is complete, Minh has begun updating the language pack for compatibility with the latest trunk builds of Thunderbird, based on an existing language pack for Firefox (see below). Current work is taking place on an offsite Subversion repository. If you’re interested in helping out, please contact him.
About Mozilla Thunderbird
Thunderbird is an e-mail and newsgroups client, a fast and innovative alternative to Microsoft Outlook Express. It includes handy features such as trainable spam filtering, easily accessible search, and support for multiple accounts and RSS feeds. Its extension framework allows users to add useful third-party features, such as music players, dictionaries, and notepads.
What happened to Firefox?
There are existing efforts to translate Firefox into Vietnamese. The most complete of these efforts is a language pack by Jasper Thái that will hopefully become an official localized version of Firefox in the near future.
